Reggaeton has always been banging. Just in the last 3 years its become main stream within the latin districts of the US. Due to Tego Calderon (he is in the lean back video. the one on the couch.) There are other dope MC's such as Don Omar, Eddie Dee,Ivy Queen, Yankee, Zion & Lennox and the list goes on, that are ripping the reggaeton scene. N.O.R.E is just making reggaeton main stream to the non latin peeps.

I'm from Sydney, and Reggaeton is also starting to infiltrate the latino community here. The one thing that is not happening is enough reggaeton in Latino clubs (still too Salsa/Merengue centric here, because the dance schools operate most of the clubs). The game has to be lifted here. The only Reggaeton i've heard was actually in a R&B club where they played the NORE - Oye Mi Canto track. That will hopefully get Reggaeton noticed around here (particularly amongst latinos).

I thought I was the only one listening to it and then out of the blue a Nicaraguan friend of mine asks me to burn her all my reggaeton.

My faves? Daddy Yankee, Hector Y Tito, and Don Omar. My wife (who is from Lima) is loving Hector Y Tito - La Historia (Live).

Also, I wonder whether Reggaeton will be as huge as people are saying in the US. I seem to remember the same being said of Dancehall and it didn't happen. Sure, alot of US producers tried to reproduce the sound but it never worked. The sad thing is I know there is alot of great Dancehall coming out of Jamaica, but as is normal, unless the US companies haven't got a lock down on it they won't get heard. Hopefully the sizeable latino community makes a difference to Reggaeton's fortunes in the US so it can filter down to mainstream Australia
(Latinos and non-latinos alike). I think NORE's track being played on MTV will be the spark to move it into mainstream consciousness, but whether that is a good thing remains to be seen.

I'm from the D.C; which means I'm from the east coast. I don't understand what the big deal is. We are latinos and we shouldn't be dissin' each other like this. I'm sure those who hate latinos and blacks enjoy hearing latinos disrespecting latinos and black disrespecting blacks. I didn't used to be into reggaeton 'til I heard Don Omar. My main music has always been R&B, Hip Hop and Salsa. I think reggaeton is the bom and I can't get enough of it. I believe that as latinos we should be happy other people embrace the good things we got to offer and our music is one of those things. So damn man stop hatin'!

Reggae, dub and related forms
In Jamaica during the 1950s, American R&B was most popular, though mento (a form of folk music) was more common in rural areas. A fusion of the two styles, along with soca and other genres, formed ska, an extremely popular form of music intended for dancing. In the 1960s, reggae and dub emerged from ska and American rock and roll.

What really happened wit Tego taken out of the remix? The part where Tego sings is an old cli from his song "Soy Vegetariano y no paso el cerdo". The way the song begins is "En el 2003 suerte, pa que vendan como pan caliente..." which translates to "I wish you luck in 2003 so that you guys sell like hot bread..." So you see, that was an old ass song from tego and it probably was done without his conssent. Take it from me, Im from fucking SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, where this shit started back in the 80's.

First of all gotta give props to sheena because she is the only one who seems coherent enough to know what she is talking about. Thank you for shedding the light about where spanish reggae really originated from, (Panama). This isn't a hate on reggae from puerto rico because i grew up listening to it but to be honest, it (reggaeton from puerto rico) wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the influences that came from panama. Reggae en nuestro pais es una cultura y forma de vida. Desde que llegaron jamaiquinos a panama nos han influenciado con su cultura y una consequencia de eso fue la de musica reggae. Y asi se han criado muchos de la juventud en panama, escuchando reggae no solo de panama pero de su pais de crianza, jamaica, y ellos incorporan ese tipo de cultura todos los dias en panama. Like i said this is not a hate on (reggaeton) as it has become now known because i lived in florida in the early 90's and all I listened to was Playero, The Noise, Baby Rasta y Gringo, Tempo, Mexicano and other good artists but I think credit has to be given where it is deserved. To know where your going you gotta know where you come from. I think that the spanish reggae scene will soon be hearing some very good artists from El Patio(Panama)and also see what talents we've got. Let's support each other in this and other music genres and keep growing as a latin community no matter where we're from. What's up to all my panas from Panama and PR. Que dios los bendiga a todos.

I may have seemed a little harsh with some earlier comments about being latino, and i hope that all ive offended can look past my ridicolous comments. I've always considered Panama to be one of the closest looking cultures to Puerto Rico, and the comments Panama1 made has made me feel ashamed of what I've said.
I now realize that, not only reaggaeton, but also many different types of latin music are being left in the dark because of absence of public light.

So he said he was dedicated to Hip Hop. So he switched back and foruth over the years between Hip Hop and Reggaeton depending on what White People in PR were into at the time.So he kept shoveling his gayass shit until one day he got shot for runnin his fucked up mouth.
